A missed call is not a missed call. It is a customer who has already decided to buy something and is now dialling the next name on the list. That is the part the voicemail light never tells you.
The arithmetic
Take the three numbers you already know: how many calls you miss in a normal week, how many of the ones you do answer turn into work, and what an average job is worth to you. Multiply them and you have the weekly cost. Multiply by 52 and you have the number that usually makes people quiet.
- 12 missed calls a week is not unusual for a busy trade or clinic.
- If one in three callers becomes a customer, that is 4 lost jobs a week.
- At €260 a job, that is €1,040 a week — around €54,000 a year.
You do not need to believe our figures. Put your own into the ROI calculator and it will show you the same sum with your numbers in it.
Why it stays hidden
Missed calls never appear on a report. There is no invoice for the job you did not win, no line in the accounts, no angry email. The cost is entirely invisible, which is exactly why it goes on for years.
The phone ringing out at 8:40am on a Monday is the most expensive sound in a small business.
What actually fixes it
Not another voicemail message, and not a call-back promise. The only thing that reliably converts a caller is a voice that picks up on the second ring, knows your hours, your services and your prices, takes the details and either books the job or gets it to a human. That is the whole job of the receptionist we build for you.
